uventus midfielder Arturo Vidal has aggravated his long standing knee injury whilst on international duty with Chile, according to the Mail.
Vidal was a summer transfer target for Manchester United, but manager Louis van Gaal failed to tie up a move for the 27-year-old because of his concerns over the problem - which have been plaguing Vidal since the end of last season.
Though widely considered as one of the best midfielders in Europe, Vidal's troubles have seen him struggle to get back to the top of his game over the last few months. During his appearances at the World Cup for Chile, Vidal looked far from full fitness, and after the most recent issues he could be spending more time on the sidelines.
Vidal will undergo a series of tests while on international duty after he broke down during a routine training session earlier this week.
Van Gaal's concerns over the player and eventual decision not to complete a move could prove to be a well informed call, because it is suspected that the player will need further surgery in the coming weeks to fully clear up the problem. If that turns out to be the case, Vidal will be spending a further few months away from the game.
The Manchester United boss instead chose to sign Angel Di Maria to remedy his midfield issues.
