Now that the first man has landed on the moon. The next stage will be to make the place ready to receive more visitors.
From what we know about the moon, life will not be very pleasant there. The surface is covered with great craters and high jagged mountains. There are also great 'seas' of solidified lava - rock which was once molten but has now, cooled and hardened. The seas and the hollows of the craters are covered with a layer of volcanic dust. There is no air, no water, no animals or plants. Nor is there any sound, because sound needs air to carry it. During the day, which lasts for a fortnight, the rocks become hotter than boiling water. During the night, which also lasts for a fortnight, the temperature drops to 150 degrees below freezing.
So the people who go to the moon will not be able to go out for a walk unless they wear a space suit to protect themselves from the heat or cold and to supply themselves with air to breathe. Houses on the moon will have to be completely sealed in, and everything people need, even air itself, will have to be brought from earth.
