AISI 403 steel showed an adhesive wear.
Comparing specimens treated by duplex treatment with
ones by only boronizing, the tendency to formthe
cracks in wear track decreased extensively in the case
of duplex treated specimen and also friction coefficient,was lower than those of the only
boronized specimen. These agree with the results from
the wear volume measurements. Excellent surface stability
provided by chromizing and high surface hardness
induced by boronizing could be attributed to the muchimproved
high temperature wear resistance
