Molecular markers are very informative and their application in studies of genetic diversity in plants has shown advantages over other markers based on the description of the phenotype, such as: (a) are neutral markers, invariable for distinct age and tissue type (Bernatzky and Tanksley, 1989); (b) present a potentially higher number of polymorphic markers and allelic variation (Chalmers et al., 1992; Liu and Furnier, 1993).
