We would like to expand the results of the previous section to find other places where knowing NINO3 gives a strong hint as to whether there will be a drought. So we compute the correlation between Jun-May NINO3 with Jun-Sep precipitation using a global set of weather station data. Looking at India, for example, we see points that are quite blue, indicating a strong negative correlation between NINO3 and rainfall. This corresponds to what we saw before: strong positive NINO3 (warm) is correlated with negative rainfall anomaly (drought).
