Figure 7B shows the fractions of ionic and particulate silvers measured by filtration/ICP−MS in water and a detergent solution. In water, both ionic and particulate silvers co-existed in a similar ratio throughout laundering cycles studied. However, in the detergent solution, a majority of silver existed as a particulate form. The percentage of ionic silver based on total silver was compared to the literature values. According to the ISE results (Figure 7C), the percentage of ionic silver in water for our product after the first washing was greater than the values from other studies, whereas the percentage in the detergent solution was comparable to the literature values. Similar comparisons were also observed when ICP−MS was employed (Figure 7D).
