Lesson VOC 65
Task: Clean a toilet.
Prerequisites: ADT 67, ADT 125
Concept: Once the student can demonstrate the ability to clean a shower or tub in a home environment (see prerequisite ADT 125), a logical progression is to use the same skills to clean a toilet. Due to the obvious potential for germ transmission, the skill of handwashing is also listed as a prerequisite (ADT 67). Although this lesson is designed for a work setting, it can be easily modified to a home setting as well. Use only a single commercially prepared cleaner. Do not attempt to mix ammonia and bleach under any circumstances, as this can pose a significant health hazard.
Behavioral Objective: When requested to clean a toilet in an identified area, the student will clean the toilet, using a toilet brush and bleach-based solution, to a 90% ac-curacy level for 20 trials.
Materials: A bleach-based cleaner, plastic gloves, a cloth or paper towels, a toilet brush, and a toilet for practice purposes.
Materials: A bleach-based cleaner, plastic gloves, a cloth or paper towels, a toilet brush, and a toilet for practice purposes.
Task Analysis:
1. Demonstrate the entire process to the student, using a lot of verbal descriptions as the act is performed. Be sure to include the use of gloves and hand-washing after the demonstration.
2. Review with the student the concepts used in cleaning a tub.
3. Modify Step 2 to use a toilet instead of a tub and physically guide the student in the use of the toilet brush, the cloth, or the paper towels. Start by placing the cleaner in the water and use that to clean the interior of the toilet. Using the cloth, guide the student in cleaning and rinsing the exterior surfaces of the toilet.
4. Continue Step 3, reducing physical guidance to step-by-step verbal cues.
5. Continue Step 4, reducing the step-by-step cues to a total-task request. Continue until the objective is met.
