The woman had been treated for her mental illness at Pluak Daeng Hospital in the eastern province on Nov 18. The hospital then referred her to Rayong Hospital where she received medication.
Just before the shooting on Monday, the woman worked at a karaoke shop in Pluak Daeng district and was arrested for illegal immigration.
She was detained at the Pluak Daeng police station pending her repatriation and there was allegedly raped by Pol Sen Sgt Maj Shinkrit Phutthipraphas, 48, who was in charge of inmates there.
After the woman's complaint, assistant police chief Pol Lt Gen Phisit Phisutthisak ordered the chiefs of Provincial Police Region 2 and Rayong police to investigate.
A source said that Shinkrit already confessed to interrogators and then the Lao woman was sent for a physical examination. The result had not been reported to interrogators.
