The EC values of substrate mixes and the field soil were in the range of 3.9–5.2 d S m−1 at the beginning of the experiment(Table 1). These values remained little changed at the end of the season, except for the field soil where it decreased from 5.0 to 2.3 d S m−1(Table 2). Na levels were below 400 mg l−1 and Cl below 300 mg l−1(Tables 1 and 2). Although strawberry is generally considered a salt sensitive fruit crop, impact of salinity on strawberry yield and quality has been reported to depend on cultivar types of the strawberry and types and concentrations of specific salt ions.
