2.2. Preparation of coating solution and application on hardy
kiwifruit
Chitosan used in this study was obtained from Daphnia
longispina ephippia in an earlier study [15]. Deacetylation degree
(DD) of the chitosan was 70–75% and viscosity-average molecular
weight of the chitosan from ephippia was determined as 4.16 kDa
in the present study. For more details about the physicochemical
properties of the chitosan, please refer to our previous study [15].
The coating solution was prepared by dissolving 10.0 g kg−1 of
chitosan in acetic acid solution (pH 2.0–2.3) under a continuous
stirring on a magnetic stirrer/hot plate for 2 days at 40 ◦C. After
mixing, the coating forming solution was degassed under vacuum
and filtered through a Whatman No3 filter paper to remove any
