On this note, it is worth addressing the appropriateness of the stop signal task for ISV research. Due to the conflicting demands of the two subtasks (responding quickly to go trials while avoiding responding to stop trials), participants may employ strategies that prioritise one over the other. Not only does the fact that this task is not a ‘pure’ RT task itself raise concerns about using it for ISV research, but the strategy employed by a participant may vary from session to session, adversely affecting reliability. The relatively low test–retest, as compared to odd–even, reliability found in this task may be evidence of the latter problem in the presentstudy. Further research is needed to validate the use of this task for ISV research.
