relatively short period of time (less than 12 minutes).
Although ice massage and cold water immersion
required significantly less time to produce numbness,
there were no differences in terms of duration of posttreatment
numbness (i.e., approximately 5 minutes
for each). Our findings suggest that an optimal cryotherapy
effect on cutaneous sensory receptors can be
achieved in a substantially shorter amount of time than
the typical duration of cold application for reduction
of intramuscular temperature.
