A Florida woman tricked a Minnesota couple who wanted to adopt her unborn child into paying her thousands of dollars while hiding from them that she had actually miscarried the baby.
Carrie Cutler, 31, was charged with adoption fraud for stringing the Midwestern couple along for seven months after the miscarriage and collecting $13,000 from them that was supposed to cover rent, food and medical expenses, a Miami NBC station reported.
The Florida woman miscarried the baby that Todd and Alyssa Holmstrom hoped for two months into her pregnancy — but Cutler continued to text the couple with updates, telling them the child was a girl and that she was “fine,” according to NBC.
When the Holmstroms traveled to Tampa for the baby’s birth, Cutler deceived them again by telling them the doctor miscalculated her delivery date.
