The contrastive topic particle is one of the linguistic forms that feature in the discussion of negation in Korean. The particle in question can be used either as a topic particle (henceforth Top) or as a contrastive topic particle (henceforth CT). It follows that this particle can occur several times in as utterance, both for the topic and for the contrastive topic. When it marks the initial element of the sentence, it usually indicates the topic of the sentence, and the stress is not involved in this use. This is illustrated in (16a) below. However, when the contrasted clause follows the particle, or the stress is placed on it, this indicates contrast, as we can observe in (16b) and (16c). When used in non-initial positions, CT definitely denotes contrast as in the example in (17).
