It is Mrs. Lin's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Lin are at their favorite Chinese restaurant,China Jade. They do not go out to eat very often. It is expensive to eat out in San Francisco. They only eat out on special occasions. Mrs. Lin is fifty years old today so it is a very special occasion
China Jade is small and fancy. There are about ten tables and there is a rose on each table. There are paintings on the walls and plants in the corners. Charlie is their favorite waiter. He works very hard and he enjoys his job. He likes the customers and they like him. He knows that it is Mrs. Lin's birthday and he wants the dinner to be very special. He brings Mr. and Mrs. Lin a menu and a pot of tea. Then he takes their order. They order soup for the first course. For the main course,they order Peking Duck. For dessert, Mr. Lin has a surprise. He bought a birthday cake designs. Charlie brings the cake with five candles on it. They eat the cake slowly. When they pay the bill,they leave Charlie a nice tip.
The evening is perfect. It is midnight when the Lins get home. Robert and Megan are already asleep. Mrs. Lin puts her red rose from China Jade in a vase. She is very happy. She thinks that it is not so bad to be fifty years old.
