Maize in the major rainy season
Despite some differences in rainfall of the 2 years, the principal
differences in grain yields were the same between inclinations
and fertilizer treatments, allowing a presentation as means of both
years (Table 2).
Values for both Home gardens and Fields were
mostly significantly higher in the Flat category than in the Moderate
category, and however much lower in the Steep category;
this pattern was most pronounced in Gliricidia alone (G) and Zero
treatments, i.e. without NPK (Table 2).
With NPK but without Gliricidia application, remarkably high yields were achieved for an open
pollinated variety with a range of 4.2–4.8 tonnes ha−1 in Flat and
Moderate categories
and an acceptable yield of 3.5 tonnes ha−1 in the Steep.
