Clerodendrum L. species comprise the largest genus of the
Lamiaceae family and grow widely in tropical and subtropical
areas of the world. Many species of this genus have a long history
of medical use in traditional medicine. In Nepal, the fresh juice of
Clerodendrum indicum (L.) Kuntze is used for treatment of fever,
and in Thailand, Clerodendrum chinense (Osbeck) Mabberley is
employed for its anti-pyretic and anti-inflammatory effects
(Wahba et al., 2011). In China, Clerodendrum trichotomum Thunb.
and Clerodendrum bungei Steud. are utilized as an antihypertensive
agent (Editorial Committee of Chinese Materia Medica, 1999a).
C. bungei Steud. is a shrub indigenous to mainland China and
South Korea, as well as being cultivated in Japan as a garden plant.
