Adjustment which was made upon the inducement coming from the accreditation commission in favour of
economic, managerial and information science courses has decreased the emphasis on foreign language
preparedness and further tuition in the area of foreign languages, and enabled us to offer travel and tourism
management also to students in part-time study, to meet the demand for travel and tourism studies at least partially.
High demands on students who decide to take the final state exam in a foreign language have been maintained. Such
students mostly pass all optional language courses which we offer.
5. Conclusion
Development of competences in the English and German languages is ensured through growing demands on
students, a well thought-out conception, auctorial textbooks and study materials, the use of e-learning courses, and,
last but not least, through the emphasis put on the intercultural dimension of language teaching. Intercultural
approach is a necessary part of any language and humanizing subjects, it reflects itself in the deepening
internationalization of teaching and studying. These issues were in focus of the Scientific Research and Language
Teaching conference organized by our Department of Applied Linguistics in autumn 2011.
