Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) is a staple food forthe people of the arid and semi-arid tropical regions of Africa and Asia (Chavan et al. 1988). Graham et al. (1986) reported that millions of people in the semi-arid regions of the world, and especially in Africa and the Asian subcontinent, dependon sorghum as a major source of dietary protein and energy.Sorghum is cultivated in different parts of the world; grainsorghum is considered to be the fifth most extensively grown crop in the world and the third largest crop harvest in theUSA (Kazanas and Fields 1981). In Saudi Arabia, sorghum is grown in different regions, but it is the main cereal crop inthe south-western region (Chaudhary 1989).
