This arrange- ment allows the subarachnoid spaces and the venous sinuses to reabsorb CSF, which returns the volume to the systemic venous circulation (Rekate, 2008) Obstruction or malformation of various components of the CSF pathway may cause the accumulation of fluid within one or more of the compartments of the ventric- ular system (Figure 33-13).
