n the eyes of young adults who ponder on their identity in high school, uniforms hinder individuality. According to Adrie Mink, principal at Radulphus College, uniforms create an identity for a school and show that you are part of the school. Radulphus College introduced the uniform policy in 1999-2000. “In that time all the schools had troubles with intruders, people from outside invading the school yard. There was no control. Most schools didn’t have a gatekeeper. Anybody could come in to make contact with students to sell drugs or could pay off an old score by starting a fight with a student,” says Mink. The uniforms were a measure to ensure the safety at school. “The uniforms make it easier to recognize intruders. But it’s better to keep unwanted people outside. That’s why we have a gatekeeper. The parents pay for this.”
