The main object of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 Consumer Protection Rules, 1987, and the Consumer Protection Regulations, 2005 is promotion of the basic rights of consumers, namely the right to safety, the right to be informed of quality, potency and purity of products, the right to have access to a variety of goods of competitive prices, the right to redress grievances and the right to consumer education. The essential feature of the Act is its provision of procedures and fora for the resolution of consumer disputes.
