The aim of this chapter is to discuss the effectiveness of diagnostic interventions performed within
the framework of population screenings in order to detect the most severe forms of driver
impairment and identify the individuals at risk whose the driving licence should be withdrawn.
These diagnostic interventions give rise to several questions. What does “driver impairment” mean?
Can a screening procedure make a good contribution to preventing accidents? And are there tests
that can reliably establish if a person is fit to drive or not? What is the cost of such a procedure?
