The Srel for lignin degradation of WRF is the proportion of total lignin loss to total DM loss, which was not constant over
the fungal colonization period (Fackler et al., 2007). In general, high Srel for lignin(pm) degradation occurred for the shorter
colonization period (Fig. 2), indicating that the DM loss of OPF is mostly associated with the degradation of lignin as proposed
by Leonowicz et al. (1999). In contrast, for P. eryngii and P. ostreatus, the Srel for lignin(pm) degradation remained constant
throughout the colonization period, which is in agreement with Okano et al. (2006) where sugarcane bagasse was colonized
with P. eryngii for 8, 12 and 16 wks and the Srel for lignin degradation was not affected over the colonization period.
