favour natural rice blast incidence in terms of seed density, N
fertilization and rice variety, since no fungal inoculation could be
carried out under field conditions as described in material and
methods. This working hypothesis served our purposes since rice
blast incidence in the area was consistent with incidence and
virulence in the non-experimental area, as reported by the
sophisticated system available in the area. Therefore, to ensure
disease development dose of N fertilizer was added, and Baixet, a
very sensitive variety to Pyricularia, was sown in experimental
plots at a higher density, while a more resistant variety, Puntal, is
used in the area for production.
