Matty, fifteen years old, will be leaving school in a matter of time. His ambition is to work with animals, and therefore he is more than willing to get a job on a farm. However, his parents say he is too young to leave home, which means he must stay in the town and get a job in ship-building, which would generate him good money like his father. His parents are also assertive that Matty can't go on a camping holiday with his friends, and they say he can't keep his dog, Nelson, because Nelson barks all day and eats his father's shoes.
