Twitter’s rapid growth sparked the PR profession’s interest in the so-called “real-time Web”. In 2009, the advent of the real-time Web extended beyond Twitter when Microsoft’s Bing, and then Google, launched real-time search albeit leaning largely on Twitter contributions – Tweets. At the time of writing, Bing serves up real-time search results at http://bing.com/social and google had retired its early foray accessed via its “updates” feature, refocusing instead on the real-time google plus social network.
