The percentage of stained kernels was lower in grains stored in
silos equipped with exhausters in the first 6 months of storage
compared to grains stored in silos non-equipped with exhausters.
Grain staining is a latent effect that is a consequence of the action of
microorganisms, which appear during storage after an interval
from the time of their damage. According to Kaliyan et al. (2007),
cold ambient-air aeration provides better control of most storage
pests, which is one of the main factors that increase the percentage
of stained rice. The warmer atmosphere inside the silos that were
not equipped with an exhauster intensified the staining of rice.
