Advantages: Supplemental oxygen delivery through “flooding” of the newer servocontrolled incubators provides steady oxygen that can be warmed and humidified effectively to high levels without providing inadvertent pressure. Visualization of the infant is not impaired, generated noise is low, and the infant can move throughout the incubator without altering inspired oxygen content. Lack of need for a cannula eliminates the skin breakdown that can occur at the infant’s nares or in the facial area of the nose.
