each of the 24 written CV sounds is associated with a picture of a real Thai word that starts with that sound. The tones of the CV sounds as written and in the real words, however, may be slightly different due to tone markers or dead final consonants. This approach to teaching Thai phonics is similar to how Thai children learn to associate each of the 44 Thai alphabet letters with a real word but, in TPL 1 each real word has the อา vowel sound. This is also the first opportunity for students to associate written sounds with pictures and with real Thai words, which is the beginning of learning to read Thai using our picture-based approach to teaching reading skills.
