respectively, thereby representing the contemporary market
situation. An 8-gram weight difference changes the environmental
profile of the two technologies compared completely, lowering the
environmental impact of aseptic packaging systems by over 20% on
average for the categories analysed.
Finally, when the data of the production phase of orange juice
were included in the analysis (taken from the work by Doublet
et al., 2013), they accounted for over 60% for both hot filling and
aseptic packaging systems. The final sensitivity analysis further
stressed the importance of bottle weight in determining the process’
overall sustainability.
