The finding of substantial agreement between the 2 raters in relation to positive/negative responses of the SLR {K = 0.80) and slump (K ^ 0.71 ) tests is further testimony to their reliability. Interestingly, Vroomen et al found agreement between raters for the SLR test to be better when a positive finding was defined as an "increase in typically dermatomal radicular pain" (K = 0.68), as opposed to an "increase in any
pain in the leg" (K = 0.36), or "any restriction in SLR under 45°" (K ^ 0.43). The more specific definition of'"positive" used in the current study (reproduction of presenting
symptoms, whieh were intensified by dorsiflexion) may
explain our higher level of agreement.
