Recognizing the challenges presented by teaching spirituality in the curriculum, several members of our faculty decided to explore how students within our 4-year baccalaureate program viewed their spirituality, and what they perceived as spiritual nursing care. The nursing program is located within a private university based upon the Christian tradition, and the curriculum uses an integrated model for addressing spirituality. Each nursing course has foundational concepts related to spirituality that build over the 4 years of the program. Students complete a number of learning activities related to spiritual care-giving, such as journals, papers, and
clinical conferences. They create a personal professional practice model in which they explore their personal beliefs and values, applying them to the domains and issues of nursing practice.
