Description:
The Harold E. LeMay Museum is fundamentally a hybrid between a parking garage and a vintage car museum. The building structure consists of cast in place concrete elevated decks and ramps with concrete tilt up walls. The heavy timber roof structure features 5’ deep Glu-Lam arches spanning 100' that are wrapped by a curved standing seam aluminum roof. The south curtain wall elevation serves as the museum main entrance and the north curtain wall opens to an exterior deck overlooking the Thea Foss Waterway and downtown Tacoma. The Museum will house the LeMay administrative offices, multiple banquet facilities, gallery spaces, retail and storage for the vast collection of vintage cars.
In addition to the building, the LeMay Museum project includes a 3.5 acre showfield and stage. Built primarily on grass pavers and asphalt drives the showfield will serve as a venue for car shows, concerts and the yearly LeMay auction event.
