This study surveyed the expectations of users utilizing public toilets at the passenger terminal complex of Suvarnabhumi airport. the purpose of this study was to describe expectations of users utilizing public toilets at the airport, fine out the users opinions on the current and expected states of the toilets, and seek the characteristics of users utilizing them.
the study analyzed concept as identified in the literature review and made conclusions to support previous research.
A descriptive research design was used to examine the relationship between the degree of satisfaction with the current state of public toilets and the expected state of public toilets. the population for this study was persons who were 15 years old or more, with experience utilizing public toilets at the passenger terminal complex of suvarnabhumi airport during the period of the study.
The data was collected individually and confidentially.
The researcher used Yamane's sampling table to limit the number of samples in this research to 400.
the researcher distributed self-administered and pre-coded questionnaires by an accidental sampling technique at the passenger terminal complex of suvarnabhumi airport between january and february 2008
the results reveal that most of the users were thai females aged between 21-30 years old.
the largest number of them held bachelor's degrees, earned 20,001-30,000 baht per month and came to the airport as the passengers.
more than half of them utilized the toilets at the main terminal building for urination or defecation and they noticed toilets for the disabled.
The responses were analyzed and the findings indicated that current state of public toilets did not meet the expectations of users as the respondents were only moderately satisfied with the current state of public toilets in terms of comfort, cleanliness,accessibility, and safety.
they were most satisfied with comfort, followed by cleanliness,safety and accessibility.
Availability was the worst problem which users felt the airport operator should improve immediately.
Most respondents suggested that the airport operator should provide more toilets and more areas around toilets'basins and clean toilet' floors more often.
the opinion of users towards the current state of public toilets were related to the expected state of the toilets since the results of the current state (accessibility) were similar to the results of the expected state(availability)
