We found that the QoL was higher in caregivers who provided care for patients with early stage cancer. The caregiver’s mental health becomes affected as the stage progresses, if the disease recurs, or if palliative care becomes necessary. Potter et al. reported that stage 4 cancer patients were able to do fewer of their self-care activities by themselves. These results indicate that an advanced disease stage leads to more complicated care and less participation by the patient, decreasing the QoL of the caregiver
