High voltage transmission is preferred for transfer of bulk
power through long distances. The typical layout of high
voltage AC (HVAC) transmission used to supply electric power
from the on-shore is shown in Fig. 2(a). The transmission of
electricity through AC lines for oil rigs is a relatively well-
dominated activity in the current technological environment,
especially projects involving a few tens of kilometres of
transmission lines and few tens of megawatts of power demand
[7].
