One major factor that makes the fuel cell technology a subject of interest is its environmental
advantage. The fuel source for fuel cells is hydrogen and the output from the chemical reaction in the
production process is water, which has no impact on the environment. Moreover, since no
transformation into thermal energy occurs in the fuel cell process, there is no combustion and hence no
generation of CO2 and other greenhouse gases from the use of this technology. However, one major
hindrance of the development of this technology is the high production cost and the technology is still
under ongoing development.
