Moisture barriers and thin sealant films between the
toes, such as liquid band-aid or Nu Skin, though
expensive, can be used in the more severe infections.
The patient is educated about taking off his
shoes at the end of the day (if possible mid-day) and
putting on flip-flops. Shared bathroom facilities also
necessitate the use of flip-flops in the shower to control
person to person spread of infection. Frequently,
a clothing closet is available where patients may find
gently used shoes and socks.
