Of the three authors singled out by Galston, Bruce Ackerman is the
only true 'neutralist', for he believes that what is constitutive of
liberalism is a commitment to neutral dialogue and that the
commitment to equality should be constrained by the conditions
imposed by such a dialogue. Moreover, his conception of neutral
dialogue leaves no space for philosophical inquiry into conceptions of
the good and he defends the idea that liberalism should be based on
scepticism since, according to him, 'there are no moral meanings
hidden in the bowels of the universe/
