Patient education should include information on the disease and the treatment options but should also address how the diagnosis is going to affect family, work, relationships, and future.[3] Mäkeläinen et al[13] said studies have shown that patient education has a positive effect on the health, quality of life, and self-care capability of RA patients and that patient education programs have decreased disability, pain, and depression and increased self-efficacy. Education allows patients to make informed decisions about their own care and which treatment options appeal to them.[3]
