In addition to analysing the exact mode of regionalization in a certain region, the Marine Governance framework adds a quality assessment of decision making processes within Marine Governance, based on the principles of good governance. Thus, the quality of Marine Governance can be judged according to the principles of accountability, legitimacy, responsibility, representation and transparency as key governance principles in the regionalization of EBM This is supported, among others, by the Aarhus Convention (on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to justice in Environmental Matters ) and the EU white paper on good governance.
