From 14 to 125 DAFB in 2011, the levels of total flavonoids and CA in the peels from two apple cultivars changed along a sim-ilar pattern (Fig. 1). One peak appeared at about 30 DAFB, andthen declined to the minimum until fruit matures. The data indi-cated that the young fruits accumulated more flavonoids and CAin the peels than the mature ones in both cultivars. Compari-son between cultivars showed that the total flavonoids and CA in‘Feng Shuai’ were 35% and 80% higher respectively than those in‘Golden Delicious’ in the early half time (from 15 to 60 DAFB). How-ever, there were no significant differences in the total flavonoidsand CA between cultivars in the late half of fruit development. This suggested that the peels of non-russeted cultivar ‘Feng Shuai’contained more secondary metabolites than the russeted ‘GoldenDelicious’ during the young fruit stage.
