Dragon fruitswith red epicarp and red-purple pulp (H. polyrhizus)
were obtained from a fruit farm in Selangor, Malaysia. Monosaccharide,
dextran standards, citrus and apple pectins were purchased
from SigmaeAldrich (USA). Citrus pectin with galacturonic
acid content 74% and apple pectinwith degree of esterification 70e
75%as specifiedby the supplierwereused.HPLCgrade chemicals used
formonosaccharide profilingwere purchased fromMerck (Germany).
Other chemicals used in this experiment were of analytical grade.
