Being overweight and obeseObesity and excessive weight gain during pregnancycomprise one of the predictors of the developmentof preeclampsia.[14‑16] In Iran, Keshavarz and Babaeereported obesity as an independent factor responsiblefor the incidence of preeclampsia and gestationalhypertension.[17] Mostello et al. found that losing weight inthe interpregnancy intervals reduces the risk of recurrentpreeclampsia in women with a history of preeclampsia andconcluded that these women need to be encouraged to loseweight.[18] According to a study conducted in Haiti (2016),there was a significant relationship between high maternalweight and pregnancy‑induced hypertensive disorders.[10]Prepregnancy weight loss in obese and overweight womenof reproductive age is, therefore, recommended as an easyand low‑cost health intervention.
