Since the irradiance requirements for early flowering and for an increased number of flowers are different, the controlling mechanism(s) for flowering and for number of flowers may be different in Sinningia, as was reported for Lilium longiflorum Thunb. (Roh andWilkins, 1977a,b; Suh et al., 2013). Thus, the number of flowers can be increased without affecting the speed of flowering. Since the difference in flowering time is less than 16 d over the entire production period, it is not necessary to increase temperatures to higher than 23/21.C to accelerate flowering in Sinningia during floral development. In L. longiflorum, early flowering with increased bud counts was reported by manipulating temperature and photoperiod, and flowering was accelerated by forcing at high temperatures after initiation of flowers (Roh and Wilkins, 1977a,b).
