Zuckerberg first envisioned Facebook as a unitary experience, a place where all your social needs could be addressed. This approach fit with the branding strategy of Facebook connecting people all around the world. But Facebook is changing direction in 2014, and moving from having a single app that tries to be all things to all people, towards a collection of apps that are linked to the main Facebook app, but that stand alone and can compete with other apps. This will allow the main Facebook app to focus on what it does best—posting updates and displaying the Newsfeed and Timelines of users
