The energy content of the fuel pellets made at UC was assumed to be 20,090 kJ/kg (8637 Btu/lb) since plastics were assumed to be added to enhance its energy content. Therefore, 138 tonnes of fuel pellets would be able to the replace 121 tonnes of coal (25,586 kJ/kg) every year, based on the energy content of fuel pellets. With a coal consumption at UC’s power plant of 1803 tonnes/yr in 2013, this replacement would account for approximately 6.71% of the coal consumption every year.
