C. mairei and the three species (C. delicata, phelloderma and
boreali-yunnanica) that are distributed along the Changjiang River
in the middle of China, are clustered between of C. saluenensis
(reticulata) and C. subintegra. They contained roughly half the pro-
portion of acylation and a lower amount of 3G5G-types of anthocy-
anins, and they were part of a sub-cluster with a group of C.
japonica and C. semiserrata. Based on the geographical distribution
and pigment constitution as well as the cluster analysis, they ap-
pear to be hybrids between two species of C. saluenensis (reticulata)
and C. subintegra and/or C. japonica and/or C. semiserrata.
