Several studies have investigated ways of enhancing
DAF operation on slaughterhouse wastewater.
Travers and Lovett (1985) reported that optimum
fat removal from slaughterhouse wastewater using
DAF treatment without chemical addition is
obtained at pH 4.0-4.5 (Table 5). However, the pH
of slaughterhouse wastewater is rarely adjusted. Substantially
improved recoveries of fat and solids can
be obtained using chemical addition (Green et al.,
1981), which is more commonly practised in the US
